Dr. Sonia Yoshizawa

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DAY KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Sonia Yoshizawa is the Early Childhood School Assistant Director and Pedagogista at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano, California, where she leads professional learning through coaching, collaborative inquiry, and emergent curriculum. With over 30 years of experience in early childhood education, her work is grounded in constructivist philosophy and deeply aligned with the Episcopal tradition of educating the whole child—nurturing curiosity, relationships, and a profound sense of belonging.

She holds a Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education and has served as a researcher and instructor at the university level, where her work focused on STEM learning in early childhood and the Reggio Emilia approach. She is the co-author of three books on creativity and STEM learning (NAEYC; Teachers College Press), contributing to a growing body of research that bridges inquiry-based science and mathematics with the realities of early childhood classrooms. A sought-after speaker and professional learning facilitator, she presents regularly at national and international conferences and leads workshops for educators across the United States, Japan, and Hong Kong. She currently serves on the Board of the Association for Constructivist Teaching.
